ASCII Art!
I originally thought this was going to be our easiest assignment this semester. "All I have to do is upload an image and the software will do everything for me!" I thought to myself.
How wrong I was!
Since the software does not automatically resize the image, I had to ensure I had the right dimensions or the scaling would look awkward. While the instructor did mention we would have to use a horizontal/landscape image, I tried using portrait images as GlassGiant made my landscape images look awkward. I mostly experienced difficulties with GlassGiant because since it was black and white, it had difficulty capturing the detail I wanted in my images. I did not want to make the photo too large as the would make it difficult to capture a screenshot since there is a limit to how much you can resize your browser.
After trying multiple images, I finally managed to use one that had ample detail, but would work well enough as black and white ASCII art. The biggest issue with GlassGiant was that even its "small" size characters were too large to capture the detail.
While this assignment was not difficult at all when it came to creativity, I experienced more technical difficulties with this assignment than any other one! I still had a lot of fun, especially using Text-Image. I love how small the characters were so they had a lot of detail, yet the image was compressed so it didn't take up the whole screen unlike GlassGiant. The color was an added bonus, Text-Image really highlighted the strong contrast in colors in my image!
I firmly believe ASCII art looks better when its compressed. :)
