Winning My First Medal
I have won several awards throughout my life, mainly for my leadership skills. Ever since I was in middle school, my teachers pointed out that I have really strong leadership skills. In 2016, when I won the Outstanding English Student award at my old college, the professor who nominated for it even announced in his speech that he thought I was a deserving candidate because I was a leader.
While I appreciate all the awards I have won in the past, I always felt left out when my brother (who was an athlete) would win medals while all I received was a piece of paper. I wondered what it would feel like to win a medal. Would it feel too heavy around my neck? How different is it from wearing a necklace.
I finally found out the answer to these questions when I won First Place at ScarletHacks in Chicago this weekend. I have no idea how I made it on stage despite the exhilaration. I managed to trip on my own feet and then bump into the presenter who was handing out our medals. Oops. Unfortunately for me, everyone I wanted to share my news with was either busy at work or fast asleep...since it was 3 AM back home. My first medal was a secret I had to keep because of the structure of our planet and solar system. Oh well.
