Local Hack Day

In the beginning, it was difficult to even get permission to organize a hackathon on campus.

When I first mentioned my idea, few people supported me. Most faculty and students reminded me that many before me had tried and given up. I still persevered. My entire semester was spent writing letters, attending meetings, and making phone calls. After four difficult months something magical happened: I won the Grand Prize at ScarletHacks.

I finally received an email from the Dean congratulating me on my big win. My hardwork showed him the value of hackathons. All thanks to this, we received financial support to host our first Hack Day and permission to have a hackathon on campus. I soon received emails from industry professionals, local businesses, students, and faculty expressing interest in helping us. Our Hack Day on December 2 drew in a crowd of more than 50 students, far more than we were expecting. What we initially imagined would be a small event turned into one of the largest ones organized by a student organization on campus that was attended by students and industry professionals from our entire region.
With attendees of all ages from four different schools, and professionals who worked for multiple companies judging our event...I can hardly complain. I am so proud of my team for helping organize the first hackathon ever at our university and getting everyone hyped for our next big event ;)
